Runcorn And Widnes Astronomers (RAW Astronomers) were established in March 2014.
The club starts at 7.30 pm on the second Friday of each month at Sandymoor Hall in Runcorn. Runcorn And Widnes Astronomers are a friendly, welcoming club for Runcorn, Widnes and Warrington residents of all ages, who would like to learn about and enjoy our night skies.
You don’t need a telescope, expensive equipment or years of knowledge and experience – just an interest and keenness to get involved.
The club's membership ranges from beginners to observers with several years experience.
We are keen to maintain an accessible club for everyone and so do not want anyone to be excluded due to cost. With an annual membership fee of just £10 for adults and children under 16 are free and a monthly sub of £2 for adults and again free for children under 16, we are brilliant family value! You can even come and try us for just £3 subs if you are unsure about joining.
Club night activities
The main club session will be a mix of visiting speakers on a range of subjects, practical hands on workshops, help and advice, swop shop and of course whenever possible observing, observing, observing! If skies and weather permit our in-house astronomers, will be happy to stay till late to help and support members observing and photographing the night sky.
Other activities for members to enjoy in addition to the Friday night club nights have been suggested and will be organised over the year, please check our Whats On page. The club members can get involved with outreach activities by having a presence at astronomy events around the North West, visits to Jodrell Bank, National Space Centre, International Astronomy Show, trips to dark sky sites and visiting and working with other local astronomy group.
